About Tony Hagen

Crafting gritty detective fiction rooted in real-world grit, hard-boiled noir tradition, and authentic human drama from Biglerville, Pennsylvania.

Rooted in the classic noir tradition

I have always been drawn to the atmosphere and sharp dialogue of classic noir masters like Raymond Chandler and Mickey Spillane. What started as bedtime stories invented for my kids grew into a serious passion for writing, encouraged every step of the way by my family and my wonderful wife. My mysteries blend gritty, atmospheric noir with fast-paced modern action, featuring protagonists who are realistically flawed and driven by compelling stakes.

A life lived across multiple worlds

Before putting pen to paper full-time, I lived a wide variety of lives: a pipeyard worker, grocery stocker, paratrooper, infantryman, nuclear/chemical/biological warfare expert, nurse, nurse anesthetist, college professor, and retired military officer. Having lived across the United States and Europe, and deployed around the globe, I bring genuine tactical knowledge, high-stress medical reality, and diverse human perspectives directly onto the page.
